what we do and how we do it...

about fitted furniture… firstly a little bit of information on fitted furniture. It is a way of building furniture that utilises all the space available within your home, loft or garden. so it works especially well in alcoves or any other nooks or funny shapes. it is made exactly to the customers specification. it is non-intrusive and designed to blend in and, in a way, not be seen. there are two main methods of constructing fitted furniture. the front framed method which uses the alcoves themselves as the cupboard, with battening on the walls to create the shelving. a frame is then built onto the front of these and scribed to the shape of the walls. this is increasingly becoming replaced by the carcass method. this involves building a carcass or a series of carcass’ and then making them fitted by using fillets and side-panels which are scribed to the exact shape of the walls. it is the method of a modern fitted kitchen.

we favour the carcass method for a number of reasons; the lack of battening keeps the inside of the cupboards much neater in appearance, it also allows you to get a much more modern, flush look on the outside, and it means that the majority of the carcassing can be put together in the workshop. this minimises the time and mess in your house. this is our main method of work to do as much as possible in the workshop, including the majority of the painting or varnishing. we will put all of the coats on while the carcass’ are in their component form. this makes to a better finish and also less smell and mess in your home. another thing that we feel is important is extraction, so we have some very fancy tools which are all linked up to a portable extractor. this keeps us alive for longer and also minimizes the dust in your house.
